His debut film from 2000 is as visually striking as it is genuinely shocking, especially Ben “Gandhi” Kingsley portraying one of the vilest human beings ever committed to film is something you won’t forget in a hurry. The rather simple plot of a retired safecracker being strong-armed back into active duty for a last doomed job is almost beside the point. It’s the Spanish sun and broken machismo that drives this fever dream of a film. English spoken without subtitles.
