Art of the Heist Classic

Thief (1981)

Hoezo in KINO

“I wear $150 slacks, I wear silk shirts, I wear $800 suits, I wear a gold watch, I wear a perfect, D-flawless three carat ring. I change cars like other guys change their fucking shoes. I’m a thief.” Michael Mann’s neon lit neo-noir about a safecracker gearing up for his last big score is as authentic as it gets in movies. James Caan (in a career best title role) learned to actually break into complicated vaults and got quite chummy with career criminals to get the mannerisms down for the role. The result is a moody caper with a fatalistic feel amplified by Tangerine Dream’s sultry synth score. English language without subtitles.
