Hoezo in KINO

After the loss of so much life following WWII, the collective mindset was occupied with the profound titular questions and this romantic imagining really struck a chord with its audience. A RAF pilot stuck between heaven and earth negotiating for a return to the carnal plain is an outlandish enough premisse, but this gorgeously produced, dreamlike film really shines with Powell’s visionary direction. Expressionist set design, the marvelous use of Technicolor (also in the monochrome sequences) and the fantastic cast make this an unrivaled cinematic experience that utilizes the medium of film to explore what might be in store when we leave this earth behind. English language without subtitles.
