“I didn’t kill my wife!” “I don’t care!” As a genre, the mid-budget, well made and solidly acted action-thriller anchored by a big star and a seasoned supporting cast has all but disappeared from the current Hollywood slate, and that’s a damn shame. The Fugitive was – and still is – one of the best in the genre. Harrison Ford is perfect as the celebrated Chicago surgeon with the perfect life which is suddenly upended by the violent death of his spouse and murder charge. The Fugitive was the second most successful film of 1993 behind only Jurassic Park, grossing $340 million globally and receiving seven Oscar nominations (Tommy Lee Jones banking Best Supporting). The film still holds up perfectly with great set-pieces, fantastic practical stunts and edge-of-your-seat suspense. Let’s hope the end of the superhero era wil usher in the return of our beloved mid-budget movie. English language without subtitles.
