The Fugitive (1993)

Hoezo in KINO

“I didn’t kill my wife!” “I don’t care!” As a genre, the mid-budget, well-made, and solidly acted action-thriller anchored by a big star and a seasoned supporting cast has all but disappeared from the current Hollywood slate, and that’s a damn shame. The Fugitive was – and still is – one of the best in the genre. Harrison Ford is perfect as the celebrated Chicago surgeon whose comfortable life is suddenly upended by the violent death of his spouse as he is the prime suspect. The Fugitive was the second most successful film of 1993 behind only Jurassic Park, grossing $340 million globally and receiving seven Oscar nominations (Tommy Lee Jones banking Best Supporting). The film holds up bafflingly well with great set pieces, fantastic practical stunts, and edge-of-your-seat suspense. Let’s hope the end of the superhero era will usher in the return of our beloved mid-budget movie. English language without subtitles.
