Lady Terminator (1989): a 35mm presentation

Hoezo in KINO

“She mates… then she terminates.” It would be downright criminal to celebrate Jim Cameron’s oeuvre on 35mm and then ignore the cinematic copy-cats that spawned a whole genre of rip-offs following the release of The Terminator. When they realised there was easy money to be made, at least a dozen clones appeared on the video store shelves featuring cyborgs from the future, varying in quality from ’this is quite bad, you guys’, to ‘damn, this is borderline unwatchable’ to ‘WTF, this is actually amazing!’. So on the 24th of September we’re diving head first into this wave of niche ‘Terminator Rip-Off’ exploitation movies with an array of clips and trailers from many of these titles, followed by a one time only 35mm screening of the rarely seen and barely attainable Indonesian B-movie gem Pembalasan Ratu Pantai Selatan AKA Nasty Hunter AKA Lady Terminator from 1989. A rip roaring thrill ride that blends a classic Indonesian possession story with an often shot-by-shot copying of scenes from Cameron’s 1984 classic. Made by director H. Tjut Djalil, the man responsible for the obscure cult hit Mystics in Bali (1981) this is not to be missed. English language / dub without subtitles.
