Janet Planet

Hoezo in KINO

Janet Planet is a tiny, beautiful nugget of American indie cinema, brought to you by KINO’s favourite studio, A24. Mother Janet and her daughter Lacy live in the idyllic forestal hills of rural Massachusetts in a secluded house that is in turns being visited by a lover, a down on their luck friend and a spiritual teacher with symptoms of a cult leader lurking behind his monologuing (played magnificently by Elias Koteas). A delightfully wry dramedy about growing up, growing older and realizing which people are there for you, or there just for their own benefit. English language without subtitles.

Storyline

In rural Western Massachusetts, 11-year-old Lacy spends the summer of 1991 at home, enthralled by her own imagination and the attention of her mother, Janet. As the months pass, three visitors enter their orbit, all captivated by Janet and her spellbinding nature. In her solitary moments, Lacy inhabits an inner world so extraordinarily detailed that it begins to seep into the outside world.
