Barfly (1987)

Hoezo in KINO

During the filming of Barfly, Müller and his crew invented the ‘KINO Flo’ lighting technique. Since most of the filming was set in bars, fitting a soft light into such a small space proved to be a problem. They created a fluorescent light that was a lot brighter, didn’t flicker, and had the correct light temperature without giving a greenish tint. Nowadays, the Kino Flo is an essential tool in any DoP’s toolkit.
