Hoezo in KINO

Barefoot Gen is a powerful and emotionally charged animated film that depicts the devastating impact of the atomic bombing of Hiroshima during World War II. The story follows Gen, a young boy who survives the bombing and must deal with the harsh reality of post-war Japan. Director Mori Masaki portrays the horrors of war and its aftermath in a grim animation style. The film is based on the manga series of the same name written by Keiji Nakazawa, who himself survived the atomic attack on Hiroshima. Together with Grave of the Fireflies (1988), Barefoot Gen is one of the best-known anime films that depicts the attack on Hiroshima. For those who have seen Oppenheimer, Barefoot Gen is a must-see film that sensitively portrays the Japanese side. Japanese language with English subtitles.
