Take Me... To 1993

True Romance (1993)

Hoezo in KINO

“If there’s one thing this last week has taught me, it’s better to have a gun and not need it than to need a gun and not have it.” A young unknown by the name of Quentin Tarantino sold his script for True Romance for the union set minimum of $50.000 and saw his ‘lovers on the run’ pic make it fairly intact (except for the ending) to the big screen. Tony Scott’s visual flair and obvious affection for theatrical violence blends perfectly with QT’s popping dialogue, delivered by a seemingly never ending parade of talent including Brad Pitt as the stoner couch potato, Val Kilmer as Elvis, Gary Oldman as a dreadlocked pimp and James Gandolfini as, well, a ruthless mobster. But Christopher Walken and Dennis Hopper take the cake in their hilariously politically incorrect war of words concerning Sicilian heritage. A true classic. English language without subtitles.
