“Destiny is something we’ve invented because we can’t stand the fact that everything that happens is accidental.” The late ’80s and early ’90s were the romantic comedy apex and the endearing trifecta of Tom Hanks, Meg Ryan, and Nora Ephron produced one of the genre’s very best. A warm, rose-paddled bath of ‘will they won’t they’ antics play out perfectly at a time you could miss a phone call by not being at home and a talk-radio host was the closest thing to a dating app. Simpler times indeed. English language without subtitles.

Storyline

When Sam Baldwin’s wife dies, he is left to bring up his eight-year-old son Jonah alone, and decides to move to Seattle to make a new start. On Christmas Eve, Jonah rings a radio phone-in with his Christmas wish to find a new wife for his dad. Meanwhile in Baltimore, journalist Annie Reed, who is having doubts about her own relationship, is listening in.
