Redline (2009)

Hoezo in KINO

What contains more car violence than eleven Fast & Furious films combined? Yes, the anime Redline! Directed by Takeshi Koike, this car racing anime is an adrenaline rush. We follow the story of JP, a rebellious racer who competes in the galaxy’s deadliest and most illegal race, the Redline. Redline fits within the booming sports anime market, a subgenre that is very successful in Japan. But the film also draws inspiration from the game’s world and is therefore part Formula 1 and part Carmageddon, with a touch of Wacky Races. Director Takeshi Koike’s signature style relies heavily on Western comics, which combined with anime creates a unique visual look. A must-watch for fans of fast-paced action and innovative visual storytelling in anime. Japanese language with English subtitles.
All films will be introduced by Noa Mac Donald. She is a 2D animator and mixed media artist based in Rotterdam and has worked as a reviewer for the Kaboom Animation Festival for the last three years and is a connoisseur of obscure animation.
