Against better judgement Herzog returned to the South American jungle accompanied by his menacing muze of mayhem, Klaus Kinski, for a cinematic but very real feat of defiance against the laws of nature. Fitzcarraldo, about a classical music enthusiast hellbent on building an opera house in the middle of the jungle, saw Herzog hoisting a 1:1 scale riverboat over a hill in the green inferno while dealing with Kinski’s escalating fits of rage so maddening, the local tribe leader actually offered Herzog to quietly kill Kinski, to which the director cooly replied “if anyone kills him, it will be me.” What a legend. German Language with English subtitles.
