Out of Control: The Rise of A.I.

Ex Machina (2014)

Hoezo in KINO

One of our favorite sci-fi’s from the past decade is this beautifully shot thriller from debutant director Alex Garland (writer of 28 Days Later, later director of Annihilation). Oscar Isaac, Alicia Vikander, and Domnhall Gleeson give their acting all in this three-hander in which a tech billionaire toys around with the relationship between humans and robots, with far-reaching consequences. It’s a chilling yet riveting film, well placed in one of the most beautiful houses ever filmed. Ex Machina should be mandatory viewing material for A.I. scientists, hopefully inspiring them to tread lightly – consciousness is not to be toyed with. For us, it inspired us for the lamps above the bar. English language with Dutch subtitles.
