Companion Piece: Variety (1983)

Hoezo in KINO

As a companion piece to the Venice Film Festival winning documentary All the Beauty and the Bloodshed we screen the little known but quietly influential 1983 film, Variety. Directed by Bette Gordon, this New York reversed role stalker story about a peep show box office worker developing an obsession for a male customer, is definitely influenced by the likes of Scorsese’s Taxi Driver and even Hitchcock’s Vertigo but has a distinct own voice that examines themes like loneliness, desire and lust. A great independent film that deserves to be seen more than it has up to now.
