Hoezo in KINO

No film genre was ever the same after Stanley Kubrick dove into them – something one surely can say about the historical drama-setting in which he chronicles 18th century trickster Barry Lyndon. Aristocracy is at its most pitiless, in a depraved society both voluptuous and empty. As all Kubrick-connaisseurs know: the only way to see the majestic lighting and set pieces of Barry Lyndon is on a 35mm print – which we have been lucky enough to find for this screening introduced by dr. Bart Leeuwenburgh.

Dr. Bart Leeuwenburgh (1960) is a university lecturer in the history of philosophy. He was co-editor of the Dictionary of Seventeenth and Eighteenth-Century Dutch Philosophers (2003). In 2009 he obtained his PhD for his assessment of Charles Darwin’s (1809-1882) theory of natural selection in the Netherlands. A commercial edition of this thesis was published in the same year under the same title: Darwin in pastors’ land. Introduction in English, film on 35mm without subtitles.
