This summer KINO presents ‘Underbelly’, a series of contemporary features from the great city of Los Angeles. As the sheer volume of possible titles boggles the mind, we’ll be focusing on the start of the ‘New Hollywood’ era from 1969 onwards, with riveting, often uncompromising stories concerning the seam side of the metropolis’ ecosystem. ‘Underbelly’ showcases the tales of the down-and-out, the downtrodden, the down-on-their-luck and the downright criminal. With some features better known than others, we aim to present a program that might surprise even the most hardened Letterboxd addicts as we invite you to discover new favourites or get reacquainted with these great movies on the big screen.
