Once Upon a Time in Anatolia (2011)

A group of men lead a search for a victim of a murder to whom a suspect named Kenan and his mentally challenged brother confessed. However, the search is proving more difficult than expected as Kenan is fuzzy as to the body’s location. As the group continues looking, its members can’t help but chat among themselves about everyday life, which ultimately leads to conversations about their deepest existential concerns and secrets.

Jeanne Dielman, 23, quai du Commerce, 1080 Bruxelles (1975)

Chantal Akerman was just 25 years old when she set out to chronicle the monotone life of a Brussels mother and widowed housewife, working with an almost entirely female crew. The lengthy (200 minutes) film spans three days in the life of Jeanne, minutely framing her chores and hobbies in real time, intersected with gentleman callers that drop by for paid pleasures. A film that requires a determined mindset but rewards the persistent viewer with a truly unique cinematic experience.
