You already know how much we love 35mm and 70mm film, but our first love? That was the video store. And not the DVD kind, we’re talking good old VHS. Long before the internet, this place was our portal to other worlds, other countries, and countless cinematic discoveries. Time to dive deep into this magical era with three fantastic documentaries we’re bringing to the big screen. First up, Videotheek Marco by Gyz La Rivière, which premiered at IFFR this year, explores the unique video store culture of Rotterdam. Kim’s Video, which tells the wild story of NYC’s legendary video store with a collection of 55,000 rental titles and how, in 2008, the entire archive was gifted and shipped to Sicily in an attempt to revive local tourism. We round it all off with Videoheaven, narrated by Maya Hawke, where director Alex Ross Perry celebrates the neighborhood video store while reflecting on broader shifts in society, using a rich collage of both high and lowbrow footage.
Zestig jaar oud en nog altijd springlevend: The Sound of Music blijft een van de mooiste klassiekers om samen in een volle zaal te beleven. Te zien in glorieus 70mm, het formaat waarin hij bedoeld is.
With the sad passing of Hungarian slow cinema king Béla Tarr, we invite you on Saturday the 24th of January to clear your schedule and experience his hypnotic magnum opus on our biggest screen.
We're back with a Stop Making Sense dance party! Yes, dancing is allowed in the screening room and to get you in the mood tickets include a This Must be the Cocktail.
