Cult Status: Night of the Juggler (1980) + pre-show

Cult Status is back! As fans of 1970s New York “Fear City” films, Night of the Juggler was the one that got away and impossible to watch outside of fuzzy bootleg VHS tapes or dingy Youtube rips. That’s why we’re so excited to screen the newly restored version for the first time in The Netherlands. This frantically paced kidnap thriller starring James Brolin and Cliff Gorman (among many others that makes you do the ‘DiCaprio pointing’ meme) is about an ex-cop that tears the city apart in search for the man that kidnapped his young daughter. Shot on location in a city pushed to its breaking point by poverty, crime and drug use, Night of the Juggler is a stand-out in a long line of vigilante flicks capitalizing on the inner-city mayhem of the 70s and 80s.
To set the mood, Cult Status always precedes the main feature with a custom made pre-show. For this edition we dig deep into New York vigilante cinema, some vintage street stories and a bunch of period correct trailers that transport you to a bygone era before Mayor Giuliani’s gentrification changed the city forever.
