It’s 1982. In a small hotel room in Rome, a young James Cameron collapses on the bed with a bad fever. He proceeds to have a nightmare about a metallic, legless skeleton emerging from an explosion, dragging itself along with a large knife. This hellish vision would be the inspiration for his debut feature (Cameron disowned Piranha 2: The Spawning) that would catapult the 27 year old Hollywood hopeful into superstardom and made him a singular voice in blockbuster cinema. From Skynet ruled dystopian futures to the far outreaches of the galaxy and back to the equally alien depths of Earth’s own oceans, James Cameron always pushes the boundaries of storytelling and the technology of filmmaking with every feature he realises. Starting July 22nd, get yourself (re)acquainted with the cinema of James Cameron in KINO before we return to Pandora for Avatar: the Way of Water. All features are presented in original 35mm prints in their theatrical cuts. Be sure to check out the filmpages, we’ve uploaded loads of making of’s and behind the scenes footage!
At this time there’s a worldwide stop on screenings of Titanic. As soon as the opportunity arises, it’s full steam ahead with Cameron’s crowning achievement from 1997, probably on 70mm. Thank you for your patience. Until then, our hearts will go on.

A remake of a French action comedy is not really what first springs to mind when considering a follow up to T2 for Cameron and Schwarzenegger, but The Austrian Oak wanted to dip his toe into comedic territory and Cameron felt a slightly lighter tone was a welcome alternative after his cyborg filled dystopian future feature(s). The film about a James Bond like secret agent that has to keep his occupation hidden from his spouse did turn into the most expensive production to date (being overtaken by Waterworld the next year) and is in great Cameron fashion stacked with elaborate and over the top action setpieces, feisty pre- and post mortem one-liners and has a fantastic Jamie Lee Curtis performance that matches Schwarzenegger in combining the physical and comedic to perfection. The film is screened from a great 35mm print provided by Eye Filmmuseum. English language with Dutch subtitles.
