Love & Mercy does not follow the conventional narrative of discovery, rise (and fall) of the artist but focuses on two significant periods in Wilson’s life; the creation of his masterpiece Pet Sounds and the dark time when he was under the influence of charlatan therapist Eugene Landy. A heartfelt and often heartbreaking look at troubled life defined by musical genius, mental illness that was eventually saved by the power of love. With great performances by Paul Dano and John Cusack as the young and older Brian Wilson, respectively.

To celebrate Brain Wilson’s 80th birthday and the 60th anniversary of The Beach Boys, KINO wil screen the new documentary Brian Wilson: Long Promised Road on his life and work and the criminally underseen biopic Love & Mercy (2014) that focuses on two pivotal and formative periods in Wilson’s life. The kickoff is on June 19th with the one-time-only musical evening The Brian Wilson Experience, in which we explore his musical talents and the major influence Wilson had on 20th century popular music.
