KINO Presents: Art of the Heist

Time flies because KINO is turning five years old and to celebrate we’re diving headfirst into one of our favourite genres: the heist film. A genre that originated in the 1950’s and persists in many incarnations to this day. Now that millions get robbed with a simple mouse click, it feels almost nostalgic to watch skilled journeymen prepare and execute elaborate schemes to obtain that hard earned but ill gotten ticket to sunnier shores… If they make it out, of course. The heist film is a chameleonic subgenre that can appear as a noir, a buddy movie or even a social commentary, but always has the tantalizingly suspenseful extraction of valuables at its core. We’re very excited to present no less than fifteen crime capers ranging from the biggest titles made by the most distinguished directors to the smallest yet-to-be-discovered diamonds in the rough.
