WdKA Graduation Shorts: Documentary 2

This programme includes documentary films by graduating students from various bachelor programmes at the WdKA. The screening will be followed by a Q&A with the makers, moderated by documentary filmmaker & WdKA alumna Jonnah Bron.

Storyline

  • Run Clubs as a Third Place by Annabel Rawding. Brand film about run clubs as emerging contemporary third places.
  • Red Soil by Kasia Pluskota. Short film. In the Argentinian town of Apóstoles, where Polish traditions have been passed down for generations, this documentary explores how national identity is preserved and questioned across continents. Through intimate encounters and contrasting perspectives, it reveals the tensions between inherited beliefs and contemporary values, and reflects on how stories about culture are shaped by those who tell them.
  • Dromen van Beton by Gayle van der Burgh. Short film. We follow a young man on his journey through adolescence, finding confidence, identity and meaning through the Rotterdam skating scene. Trigger warning: alcoholism. Advisory age: 12+.
  • Homeynessless by Neala Yakub. A mixed media documentary talking about the complex emotions home brings for international people.
  • Fan van Iets, Fan van Niets by Lotte Geraerts. What do you miss if you are not a fan of anything? This short film, a non-fan explores different forms of fandom – from Disney and Froukje fans to supporters of PSV and the Royal Family. A documentary about surrender, commitment and the power of fandom.
