Visages, Villages (2017)

Hoezo in KINO

In collaboration with street artist JR, Varda takes her camera to French villages, pasting enormous portraits on walls and silos. This delightful documentary celebrates how extraordinary ordinary people are. It is part road movie, part art project, and part farewell, made when Varda was in her late eighties. The film became a festival hit, earned an Oscar nomination, and introduced her to a new generation of cinephiles. As with the best of her work, it turns small encounters into cinema that feels timeless and profoundly human. There are screenings with Dutch and screenings with English subtitles.
