Beneath the earth, deep within a coal mine, Viet and Nam share a secret, passionate love affair, embraced by the glittering darkness. Tensions loom over the young lovers when Nam decides to leave the country for a better life, but before doing so, Nam helps his mother search for the remains of his father, who vanished during the war. Together, the trio embark on a journey guided by dreams and memories, unearthing the collective histories of a nation still haunted by its past.
Set at the turn of the 21st century in a time of transformation, the aftermath of the war still haunts Viet and Nam as they drift towards their uncertain futures. Hypnotically captured on 16mm film, this allegorical tale—banned in Vietnam—reflects on a nation’s troubled past and the present attempts at reconciliation, while exploring themes of pain, longing, and enduring love between two lovers torn apart by tragedy.
