Hoezo in KINO

The film Videotheek Marco deals with the story of the owners of the last video rental stores in the Benelux and more broadly with the history of family-run video rental stores in The Netherlands. The first Dutch video rental chain was founded in Rotterdam. Video rental stores have historically had large significance for people, and in particular for those with a migration background, as these were places where everyone could rent films, TV shows and football matches from their countries of origin. This film highlights the social role of video stores within neighbourhood life, as they become a lens to analyse urban and national transformations since 1965. It’s an ode to the video store as a window towards our society but also as a microcosm of street culture.
