The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo (2011)

Hoezo in KINO

“You will be investigating thieves, misers, bullies. The most detestable collection of people that you will ever meet – my family.” Fincher’s vastly superior remake (the Millennium films are mediocre at best, fight us) of the first installment of Stig Larsson’s trilogy dives in with the reckless abandon usually reserved for a director certain of the sequels being confirmed. The story of unsolved murders, dark family secrets, and psychologically wounded characters is the perfect playground for Fincher and the sublime cast (Mara, Craig, Plummer, Skarsgard) embellished by the epic score of long-time collaborator Trent Reznor (and Atticus Ross with this film) and the best use of Enya’s music this side of a Van Damme / Volvo collab. English language without subtitles.

Storyline

This English-language adaptation of the Swedish novel by Stieg Larsson follows a disgraced journalist, Mikael Blomkvist, as he investigates the disappearance of a weary patriarch’s niece from 40 years ago. He is aided by the pierced, tattooed, punk computer hacker named Lisbeth Salander. As they work together in the investigation, Blomkvist and Salander uncover immense corruption beyond anything they have ever imagined.
