Remembering James Caan:

The Gambler (1974)

Hoezo in KINO

“I’m not going to lose it. I’m going to gamble it.” While remembering James Caan’s impressive career we visit a lesser known yet intriguing New York set drama from the boisterous leading man. Caan plays Axel Freed, a literature professor with a serious gambling problem which is about to ruin his life and that of his loved ones. The Gambler has that fatalist ’70 bleakness that we love so much and the film deserves to be (re)discovered for it is the perfect vehicle to appreciate Caan’s acting chops and his lifelong fascination with the world of vice and crime.
