Czechoslovak New Wave:

The Ear (1970)

Hoezo in KINO

Karel Kachyna’s The Ear is a true masterpiece amongst our already stacked selection of New Wave favourites. This tense paranoia thriller about a party official and his wife coming home after a function to find their apartment broken into and bugged, was immediately banned and only after two decades released to the public. It was immediately recognized for its excellent depiction of the oppressive surveillance state after the Russian invasion of 1968 and still stands tall as one of the best in the genre. Czech language with English subtitles.
