Hoezo in KINO

“Go to where the silence is and say something.” American journalist and all-round amazing person Amy Goodman has been fighting the good fight longer than seems humanly possible in the face of an unrelenting capitalist onslaught. Often confronting mockery, abuse, arrest and even deadly force, Goodman dedicates her life to giving a voice to the voiceless. In this gripping documentary, her work, the people she inspires (including journalists like the great Jeremy Scahill) and the lives she changed for the better are lovingly portrayed, giving the viewer a semblance of hope in these bleakest of times. From the deadly protests at the North Dakota pipeline to the ruins of Gaza, she never hesitates speaking truth to power, something Bill Clinton learned the hard way when calling her for a casual chat, live on air while campaigning for president: big mistake. If you never heard of her, add Democracy Now! to your media diet, but for now, come and see this great film, KINO is proud to screen it twice – exclusively in The Netherlands – so don’t miss out. English language and English subtitles where needed.

Storyline

New York-based independent investigative journalist Amy Goodman has been reporting from hotspots around the world for decades: from East Timor to Morocco, Nigeria, and Gaza, and closer to home during 9/11 and the Iraq War. Goodman and a small group of colleagues present the daily online, TV, and radio news program Democracy Now!, which has been on the air since 1996 with no government funding, thanks to contributions from donors, foundations, and news consumers.
