Hoezo in KINO

“The government has a word for survival. It’s called fraud.” No one could play a smarmy has-been with a chip on his shoulder quite like Jack Lemmon. And while most would point to Glengarry Glen Ross as the peak performance, his most layered work was in the all but forgotten 1973 drama, Save the Tiger. An Oscar winning turn (with the heaviest of Best Actor fields imaginable: Redford, Brando, Pacino and frickin’ Nicholson) as a garment manufacturer on his last legs, both personally and professionally. Shot on location with a more mobile camera, it helped to keep costs down, aided by Lemmon’s gesture to waive his substantial fee to showcase all of the budget on screen. The film plays like an ‘Uncut Gems on Quaaludes’ and that should be all the encouragement you need to check it out. English language without subtitles.
