Hoezo in KINO

It’s difficult to overstate what this film meant for fans of Robin Hood (the Disney animation and the tv-series) and actor Kevin Costner, who at the time dominated Hollywood with an incredible run of quietly heroic leading turns starting with The Untouchables and arguably ending with Waterworld. But even Costner’s star power, manifested here in feathered mullet and a questionable British brogue, was no match for the scenery-chewing brilliance of Alan Rickman’s Sheriff of Nottingham. A character so repugnantly hilarious, the producers cut a chunk of his scenes as to not overpower Costner completely. A splendid supporting cast with Morgan Freeman, Mary Elizabeth Mastrantioni and (I guess) Christian Slater, was topped off by Brian Adams’ cheesy power ballad behemoth to complete this mono-culture event so uniquely of its time it simply demands a comeback for its 35th anniversary. Presented in 35mm. English language without subtitles.
