Hoezo in KINO

For Valentine we have an unconventional but oddly appropriate Ozzie classic from acclaimed director Peter Weir (The Truman ShowDead Poets Society) about the disappearance (on February 14th) of a few girls and the strange melancholy of their classmates trying to find them. It’s a genuine ‘vibes’ film with dreamlike cinematography and a haunting score that generates more questions than it answers but it’s a unique viewing experience that will stay with you long after you’ve left the cinema. English language without subtitles.

Storyline

In the early 1900s, Miranda attends a girls boarding school in Australia. One Valentine’s Day, the school’s typically strict headmistress treats the girls to a picnic field trip to an unusual but scenic volcanic formation called Hanging Rock. Despite rules against it, Miranda and several other girls venture off. It’s not until the end of the day that the faculty realizes the girls and one of the teachers have disappeared mysteriously.
