Jennie Livingston invested seven years to film this 70 minute subculture defining chronicle on the NYC ‘ballroom’ movement that spawned voguing as an expression and created a much needed sheltering environment for the mainly black and latinx LGBTQIA+ community. The sequences on the catwalk at the balls are riotous and celebratory, starkly juxtaposed by the intimate interviews with contestants and organizers revealing the daily struggle and dangers members of this community are to this day exposed to.
