Loves of a Blonde (1965)

Hoezo in KINO

The idea for the follow up to Black Peter came to Milos Forman when he spotted a young woman lugging a heavy suitcase on the streets of Prague. The story about the pleasures and cruelties of love and its aftermath are cleverly structured in three locations and acts. Besides a theme of young love eventually colliding with reality, the film addresses the killjoy and monotony of communist labour and carnal passion as the only escape, rather poignantly. Czech language with English subtitles.

Storyline

Andula, an innocent Czech girl from a factory town, is desperately in search of love. She believes she’s found it when she beds Milda, a charming young musician visiting from Prague. Milda, however, is only looking for a casual encounter, and leaves town assuming he’ll never see Andula again. But when Andula doesn’t hear from him, she packs up and heads to Prague, to the surprise of Milda and his parents.
