Hoezo in KINO

From its unbelievable opening shot to the ‘how-did-they-do-that?’ camera trickery that puts the viewer smack in the middle of a blazing forest fire, Letter Never Sent transports the viewer into the inhospitable Siberian wilderness, alongside four geologists frantically searching for a diamond mine. This survival story must have been a blueprint for Iñárritu’s The Revenant – in style and execution – but in our book this classic is so much more relatable and, more importantly, rewatchable. Francis Ford Coppola is also a fan and in 1995 he used his (then still intact) wealth and influence to unearth this forgotten film. Now digitally restored and ready to marvel a new generation of cinephiles. Russian language with English and Dutch versions screened separately.

Storyline

Four geologists are searching for diamonds in the wilderness of Siberia. After a long and tiresome journey they manage to find their luck and put the diamond mine on the map. The map must be delivered back to Moscow. But on the day of their departure a terrible forest fire wreaks havoc, and the geologists get trapped in the woods.
