Hoezo in KINO

We’re happy to welcome back cinematic royalty to KINO for another wonderful live filmscore; the composer/player of the prize-winning soundtrack of Jim Jarmusch’ Only Lovers Left Alive Jozef van Wissem will play live to Robert Wiene’s silent horrorclassic Das Cabinet des Dr. Caligari (1920). Seen as one of the first horrorfilms and one of the first German expressionistic films, Caligari is a beautiful and timelessly powerful viewing experience. Jozef van Wissem is a minimalist avant-folk artist and the worldwide go-to medieval lute player. To create a hypnotizing and unearthly live soundtrack to this classic horror, he will also use electronics and guitar. An unmissable event, exclusively in KINO on October 15th.
Limited amount of tickets on sale from July 8th. General sale starts Sept.

Storyline

In the twisted, shadow-drenched town of Holstenwall, a mysterious fairground hypnotist named Dr. Caligari arrives with a chilling attraction: Cesare, a pale and hollow-eyed somnambulist who has slept for his entire life – and who, Caligari claims, can see into the future. When a series of brutal murders begins to plague the town, young Francis grows convinced that Caligari is commanding Cesare to kill by night while the sleepwalker stands motionless in his cabinet by day. As Francis investigates, reality itself begins to buckle – the streets warp, the rooftops lean at impossible angles, and the truth slips further out of reach with every step. A landmark of German Expressionist cinema, The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari remains one of the most visually inventive and psychologically unsettling films ever made = a fever dream that asks, a century later, who truly holds power over the mind.
