Special Classic Robert Redford
A Requiem for Redford:

Jeremiah Johnson (1972)

Hoezo in KINO

“His name was Jeremiah Johnson, and they say he wanted to be a mountain man…” Redford made seven films with director Sydney Pollack (they both made their acting debut together in War Hunt) and considers this one his career favorite. This stunning frontier feature is based on the almost mythic life of civil war veteran and hermitic mountain man John Johnston, a fellow that preferred the serenity of the wild over bustling town life, even if that meant braving many hardships – including a drawn out vendetta with the native Crow tribe. True freedom comes at a cost. Jeremiah Johnson is one of our favorite features from the era and what it lacks in dialogue it delivers in majestic visuals, visceral action and heartfelt loss, crowned by Redford’s stoic, lived-in performance and sporting an impressive ginger beard, never seen before or since. If you see just one Redford film to celebrate his life, let it be this one. English language without subtitles.
