Ivan Passer worked with friend and colleague Milos Forman on his Czech features as a writer and assistant director and his first (and only Czech) solo venture saw him immediately at the country’s film revolution’s top tier. His beautifully whimsical Intimate Lighting about two musician friends meeting up after a decade apart, was promptly banned by the government for twenty years. Not for anti-authoritarian sentiments, but the complete lack of acknowledgement of said government even existing. Czech language with English subtitles.
