Hoezo in KINO

Haneke, now fully formed as a master manipulator, really stress-tests the viewer by confronting us with our own unhealthy desire for violence as entertainment. By incidentally breaking the fourth wall, our complicity is implied as the director drains the bravado and excitement out of the on-screen events to leave you questioning your media consumption and honestly, your life choices, long after the credits have rolled. A home invasion by two preppy, polite young men traps a couple and their son in their lakeside holiday home residence as they gradually escalate the ordeal with increasingly cruel ‘games’. Haneke stated that “if the film was a success, it would be because audiences had misunderstood the meaning behind it.” Don’t say we haven’t warned you… German Language with English subtitles.
