Farewell My Concubine (1993)

Hoezo in KINO

The third elongated feature in our Sunday afternoon series is the stunningly beautiful 1993 Palme d’Or winner, Farewell My Concubine. Presented in a newly restored version, this sweeping film transports the viewer to the 1920’s Beijing theater school where two young boys forge a friendship that endures decades of war, political upheaval and societal transformation. With standout performances by Leslie Cheung (a Wong Kar-wei favourite) and Gong Li (Raise the Red Lantern, Miami Vice) amongst a stellar cast, this is the perfect feature to experience on our biggest screen. Presented in Mandarin with English subtitles and an intermission.
