This great little biopic was never released in The Netherlands and that is a cinematic crime if you ask us. Love & Mercy does not follow the conventional narrative of discovery, rise (and fall) of the artist but focuses on two significant periods in Wilson’s life; the creation of his masterpiece Pet Sounds and the dark time when he was under the influence of charlatan therapist Eugene Landy. A heartfelt and often heartbreaking look at a troubled life defined by musical genius, mental illness that was eventually saved by the power of love. With great performances by Paul Dano and John Cusack as the young and older Brian Wilson, respectively.
