Hoezo in KINO

“I’m not just a stunt cock, I’m an actor!.” Brain de Palma’s Tinseltown set interpretation of Rear Window (and a bit of Vertigo thrown in for good measure) is a salivatingly salacious thriller that would have Hitchcock blushing with envy. A Hollywood hopeful develops an unhealthy voyeuristic habit with an actress and (of course) witnesses a horrific crime while peeping into her private quarters. The film might be an ode to De Palma’s big hero, but it’s very much its own beast and perfectly captures the 1980’s LA aesthetic with its interiors, costumes and hairdo’s. No big surprise then that this film was on Patrick Bateman’s top video rental list in Bret Easton Ellis’ American Psycho… It doesn’t get more 80’s sleaze than this. English language without subtitles.
