Samen met het Rotterdams Bluegrass Festival organiseren we de Europese bioscooppremière van dé originele bluegrassdocumentaire Bluegrass Country Soul, een feest vol hoogtepunten van bluegrasspioniers in bloedvorm zoals Earl Scruggs, The Country Gentlemen en Jimmy Martin. Het festival in de hoofdrol bevond zich aan de start van de wereldwijde faam van bluegrass o.a. door het touren van The Bluegrass 45, en zag tegelijkertijd ‘New Grass’ ontstaan (zo stond Tony Rice voor het eerst met J.D. Crowe’s band op het podium – de start van The New South). Een niet te missen film voor bluegrassliefhebbers – puristen en nieuwelingen.  Regisseur Albert Ihde en zijn vrouw Ellen Pasternack zullen aanwezig zijn voor een Q&A bij de vertoning op woensdag 2 juli, met daarna een live performance in de foyer van KINO.

Storyline

Bluegrass Country Soul captures the sights, sounds, and magic of this three-day outdoor festival, the first of its kind, featuring bluegrass veterans and future stars alike sharing the primitive wood and cinder block stage. This documentary does more than just capture on of the largest bluegrass festivals of that decade, it’s also an interesting mixture of live performances, interviews, impromptu jam sessions and crowd footage of live music set in a small town surrounded by the now long gone red clay and tobacco shacks of North Carolina.
