Hoezo in KINO

A heist film centered around stamps might not sound that exciting, but this fast paced and smart thriller from Argentina about two con-artists attempting to counterfeit nine high valued means of postal payment will have you mesmerized from start to finish. This caper focuses more on the psychological swindle, not so much stealing valuables, but getting victims to actually hand them over willingly. The downside of this method is that if caught, you better run, and run fast. This film was a festival darling and had great stamina in the video store (remember those?), and now deserves a return to the big screen, on 35mm. Spanish language with Dutch subtitles.

Storyline

“Nine Queens” is the story of two small-time swindlers, Juan (Gastón Pauls) and Marcos (Ricardo Darín), who team up after meeting in a convenience store and become involved in a half million-dollar deal. As the deceptions and duplicity mount, it becomes more and more difficult to figure out who is conning whom, and we begin to ask ourselves, “Who isn’t a thief?”
