Hoezo in Kino

We end our chronological journey through Japan’s largest metropole with Gaspar Noé’s cinematic out-of-body experience Enter the Void. A dazzling and otherworldly perspective of this city is presented as the viewer is confined to the protagonist’s field of vision as he experiences psychedelic trips, violent death and the lingering limbo of non-existence. Labeled as a “psychedelic melodrama” by director Gaspar Noé, Enter the Void follows drug dealer Oscar and his younger sister Linda through the neon-lit nightlife of Tokyo. During a police raid, Oscar gets hit by a bullet. His spirit, unable to leave his troubling sister behind, lives on to face the challenges and aftermath of his life. Wandering through the streets of Tokyo, the story becomes a hallucinatory journey derived from the Tibetan of Book of the Dead.
