Sorcerer (1977)

Hoezo in KINO

William “Hurricane Billy” Friedkin passed away at 87, recently, so we’re screening two films from his dazzling oeuvre starting September 2nd (The Exorcist is not available at this time, To Live And Die in L.A. is screening in the Müller retrospective later this month!). Upon its release in 1977, Sorcerer was absolutely crushed at the box office by Star Wars and later released in a butchered version where the prologue (introducing the four main characters) was cut out. This re-interpretation of the French thriller The Wages of Fear (1953) is a masterclass in tension as four convicts venture through the South American jungle with two decrepit trucks containing highly explosive and unstable cargo. This true nailbiter, accompanied by a haunting score from the German synth legends Tangerine Dream, is indeed our favourite Friedkin and criminally underseen. Do not miss out.
