Girlfriends (1978)

Hoezo in KINO

No Man’s Land is KINO’s ongoing initiative to present the best contemporary and classic cinema directed by women. “How can you get married? I mean, you don’t even know him. Are you sure?” Claudia Weill’s energetic shoestring budget indie about a young photographer finding her way in New York has been an inspiration to many. From Greta Gerwig’s Frances Ha to Lena Dunham’s Girls (Weill directed an episode of the HBO hit in 2013), this casual and authentic piece of hangout cinema set a template for later generations and is now ready to be discovered all over again, presented in a great digital restoration.

One of the very rare American films that (he) would compare to the serious, intelligent, sensitive writing and filmmaking that you find in the best directors in Europe.
