In the last 20 years Dutch fish consumption doubled. How can we continue enjoying fish, without devastating consequences? During this edition of Future Flight we will screen the movie Artifishal that takes you on a trip to a possible future of fishery. We show you a way how the ‘production’ of fish could look like without damaging the environment.
The documentary will be discussed by Hendrik Kramer (Masterplan Duurzame Visserij). He will guide you to the future of fish production and consumption and advocating this future is happening right now.
Artifishal is a film about people, rivers, and the fight for the future of wild fish and the environment that supports them. It explores wild salmon’s slide toward extinction, threats posed by fish hatcheries and fish farms, and our continued loss of faith in nature. Globally there were 10 million spawning Wild Atlantic salmon in 1970. There are only 3 million left. Fish farming causes a spread of diseases, genetic pollution and sea lice and can in a couple of decades change what evolution built up over hundred of thousand of years.

During midweeks you can find Hendrik at sea, fishing for the most sustainable and organic food existing: North Sea fish. Next to fishing Hendrik is developing sustainable ships and other fishing techniques (e.g. pulse fishing) with Masterplan Duurzame Visserij.
