When several young boys are brutally murdered in a small southern Italian village, the superstitious locals react with ignorance and violence. All misfits are immediately suspected, including the local witch La Magiara, who engages in sinister black magic practices. When journalists start to crowd the village, one of them is the experienced and sharp-witted Andrea Martelli. As he meets with several villagers, he soon becomes suspicious about the superstition surrounding the locals and the town.
